Multiplication triplets

Explore the pack: find two cards that multiply to make a third, then turn them over to see the colours. How many triplets can you make?

Before this, try: Multiples huntBuilding with colours

Two cards multiplied (red and green, times green) make a card with green, red and green disks.

You need: A pack of Prime Colours cards.

Players: 1 or more

Goal: Find as many multiplication triplets as you can.

Steps

  1. Lay the cards out, number side up.
  2. Find a triplet: two cards that multiply to make a third card. For example 3 × 6 = 18.
  3. When you find one, turn all three cards over to show the colours.
  4. Can you find 10 triplets? More?

Going further

Pick one colour, say every card with a blue disk, and sort the pack into cards that have it and cards that don't. What do the cards in each pile have in common? The Investigate the colours card below walks you through it.
